History of fishing reel back to 17th century but some historian said that Chinese used it in 12th century, until 18th century reel was used just to store the excess line during fishing. Starting from this time some improvements applied to the reels and many various models were invented using various materials like brass and nickel which we still use till this days. All this improvements to the reel take us to a lot of today's reel models
which are many and specific for many types of fishing even you can find special reels for children.
To choose the suitable reel you have to ask your self 2 questions?
1- Where will you fish?
This is because fishing reel used to fish in rivers or stream are different from reels used for salt water fishing, later we will mention some of this types.
2- Will this reel price fit you budget?
After choosing the proper reel for your kind of fishing you have to check its price to see if it is fitting you budget or it is more than you can afford and in such cases you can buy a second hand reel which will be with a better price, and in all cases we recommend for beginner to start with second hand equipment to practice with it and have a good experience and later they can buy new equipment if it fit their budget.
Types of fresh water fishing reels.
- Fly casting reels are relatively simple and serve more to store the line than to mechanically assist playing the fish.
- Spinning reels are the easiest for most anglers to use and are suitably robust for most freshwater fishing.
